Internet Links to Banjo Sites

There are thousands of banjo and banjo music sites out there on the web.  All you have to do is Google things like "banjo parts,"  "banjo tabs," "banjo music," "banjo jokes" "banjo T-shirts" and so forth.  You will be amazed at what you can find.  Also, check out eBay for banjos and banjo parts.  There are hundreds of good folks in the eBay banjo community and this is a great source for parts, instruments, and accessories.  Happy hunting--and picking!

Here, however, are a few of our favorite sites.

Favorite Banjo Sites
  • The Banjo Queen of the Pioneer Valley
This is the website for Mr. K's banjo teacher here in Northampton--Diane Sanabria.  Check out her audio links, particularly her Old Joe Clark duet with Tony Trishka.  She is playing clawhammer and he is playing three-finger style.
  • Gene Sheldon on the Tenor Banjo
Here is a great comic tenor banjo routine by one of the great Vaudeville performers.  This performance was on the Jackie Gleason show back in the 1960s.  For you television trivia buffs, Gene Sheldon's most famous acting role was as the mute sidekick of Zorro!
  • Tim Thompson's Banjo Bibliography
For those of you who are serious students of the banjo as an artifact, and banjo music as an art form, this bibliography is an incredible work of musicology.  Go to it and get lost in the details and directions it can give you.
  • Don Peckham's Banjo Music--Plectrum
There's a lot more out there than good old bluegrass or clawhammering out those old fiddle tunes.  Here is a HUGE site devoted to the four-string plectrum banjo.  Great music and much, much information.  Check this one out and you might want to get rid of that fifth string!
